Our verdict

8lends funds short business loans to firms in developing markets in stablecoins, through smart contracts on the public Base blockchain, and advertises 25% a year. Its About Us page and regulation FAQ name Alpha Systems LLC of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines as operator, while the terms investors accept (effective 1 July 2026) name Clearchain Corp. of British Columbia and cap its liability at the greater of 12 months' fees or CAD 1,000. There is no financial licence anywhere in that structure, no published accounts and no default or recovery statistics, and the buyback on selected projects comes from a partner 8lends does not name. It reports no losses since launch in March 2025, and because it shares its founders and its collateral agent, Maclear AG, with Maclear, holding both is one bet rather than two.

What works

  • Loan funding and repayments run through smart contracts on the public Base blockchain, so the mechanics can be inspected even where the company cannot
  • Two ways out early for business lending: a secondary market plus a Fastlending pool with no fixed term
  • Badged projects carry a buyback of 100% of principal after 60 days from a third-party partner, which 8lends itself says is not a guarantee
  • Its regulation FAQ states plainly that no regulator insures investments, and 8lends reports no loan has lost money since March 2025

What doesn't

  • Two different operators in its own documents: Alpha Systems LLC (Saint Vincent) in the FAQ, Clearchain Corp. (Canada) in the binding terms
  • No financial licence or compensation scheme: its virtual-asset and money-services registrations are not lending supervision
  • No entity publishes accounts, default or recovery data, and the buyback partner is unnamed, so its strength cannot be judged
  • Same founders as Maclear, with Maclear AG as collateral agent vetting 8lends borrowers, and Maclear's unaudited 2024 report shows negative equity

Who this is for

Crypto-literate investors who want a small, speculative stablecoin position they could lose in full, and who are not counting on it to diversify a Maclear holding.
